The Worldwide Web

Internet is a wondrous place full of exciting information. Writers can
begin their research in the comfort of home or a library. For example if
you are going to write a Romance in the time of Victoria then type
www.victorianweb.com into your search engine. A few delicacies on offer
are Periodicals, Places, Social History and Victoria and the Victorians.
In turn these sections lead you on to further infor-mation. What
historical romance would be without Almackís. With over 18,000 hits you
are sure to find what you are looking for with its history, Patronesses,
vouchers, floor plan to name but a few of the delights that await you.
Another starting point is Wikipaedia although the information needs to be checked elsewhere it can lead to other information.
When trawling the net I suggest you place a time limit on yourself as it is easy to lose oneself in the amount of and breadth of knowledge that is on offer. A word of warning sometimes you can end up on a porn site through no fault of your own. This happened to me and I couldnít get away from it except by switching of the computer and starting again. Touch wood this hasnít happened in recent years, ei-ther the computer is smarter or I am. I know which one Iím voting for.
Letís make this a regular column. Tell us you interesting findings or your funny out-comes as you battle technology.
