HOW
A POSTAL WORKSHOP OPERATES
(for
Editors)
As
the postal workshops are a service provided by the Society of Women Writers
Victoria they must function within the constitution of the Society.
The postal workshop guidelines therefore reflect the ethos of the Society
of Women Writers.
Joining
a postal workshop
Membership
to a postal workshop is open to any current member of the Society as well as to
new members.
Prospective members of the Society of Women Writers Victoria are asked if
they are interested in joining a postal workshop and/or forwarded a copy of
‘Postal Workshops’.
If, after learning of the commitment required of members, the prospective
member indicates they wish to become
a contributor and pays the appropriate levy, they are sent detailed
information regarding the submission and critiquing process.
The Membership Secretary forwards details of the new contributor to the postal
workshops co-ordinator, who contacts
the new member to discuss writing interests.
The co-ordinator, in consultation with the appropriate workshop editor
assigns the new contributor to a workshop
with a vacancy.
The editor then makes contact
with their new contributor. When the
editor of a postal workshop welcomes a new contributor, she again sends the
circular ‘Postal Workshops’, to reinforce the level of commitment required,
as well as the ‘Dear Postal Workshop Member’ letter which provides the
‘rules’ all members are asked to adhere to for smooth running of the
workshop.
