Short narrative competition

Calling all emerging writers!  
The Slow Canoe Readings, in association with the Emerging Writers' Festival, 
is seeking submissions from emerging writers for its first short narrative competition.  
Submit your narratives of 1500 words, or ten minutes long, on the theme of food. 
The theme can be interpreted any way you like and can take any form (fiction, non-fiction, monologue, cartoon).  
The winner will read their winning piece at the Slow Canoe event for the Emerging Writers' Festival starting 23 May.

Alan Marshall Short Story Award 2013

Arnold Zable will judge the 2013 Alan Marshall Short Story Award, which is currently open for entries.

AHWA Short Story and Flash Fiction Competition

The Australian Horror Writers Association wants ‘horror stories, tales that frighten, yarns that unsettle us

The 2013 Australian Book Review Elizabeth Jolley Short Story Prize,
 one of Australia’s most lucrative prizes for an original short story ? is now open for entries.

The 2013 Jolley Prize is worth $5000 (first prize). It will be judged by Tony Birch (academic and 
author of the 2012 novel Blood), Maria Takolander (poet, critic and past winner) 
and Terri-ann White (director of UWA Publishing).
