Results announced at our February 2013 meeting by Judge Hazel Edwards

1st Prize   $250   You Never Know What You Can Find at a Garage Sale

Janice Williams, 522 Bunjils Cave Road, Stawell Vic 3380

Tightly written with humorous observations of a small town, via the newspaper, which characterise well.
Economical dialogue  with sub-text.  Realistic detail. But the major strength is the compassion and humour
within a contemporary setting. Effective title.

 2nd Prize $150   A Good Story

Jacqueline Winn, 5 St Peters Close, Possum Brush, NSW 2430

Clever link to the Azaria news story but is really a compassionate view of characters within a family.
Well paced and structured.

The portrayal of the mother via the adult children, is extremely well drawn.

 3rd Prize $100    Consequences

Jacqueline Winn, 5 St Peters Close, Possum Brush, NSW 2430

Characterisation of Andrew,  is effectively constructed with much going on for the reader to deduce.
The scene with the neighbour is so well written. Well sustained and a clever portrayal of office bullying.
