Congratulations to the winners and a sincere thank you to Hazel

First Prize and Trophy

A Temporary Oasis

by Lindy Holmes

Judge's Comments

Well chosen title for the realistic characterisation of worker Dave and also Donna, the temporary cook, at an outback resort. Explores the themes of reality versus fake and evokes  the setting of the resort and the bush. Well observed, with a credible twist.

Picture to come Second Prize

Thorns

by Mandy Nicol

A short, short, short story, which says much in the sub-text of relationships. Wry humour of a sustained viewpoint of the family member , dealing with the absent adult child and the mother’s birthday disappointment.

Dulcie Stone

Third Prize

Not In Our Street

by Dulcie Stone

Apt title. Many clichés, but they are presented through the viewpoint of the narrator.

Deals with the difficult subject of a mercy killing, but with compassionate telling, by the writer, not the narrator.
