Paula's short story 'Thirty-two Years, Eight Months…' was published in the August issue of Positive Word
 

Paula's short story 'Share House' was published in the magazine Positive Words.

 Also a highly commended for 'Finally First' in the Gum Leaves short story competition and the story was published on their website www.scribbligum.com

Paula had success with two short stories for children. 'The Red Swaggie' was published in Fellowship of Australian Writers (FAW) anthology ‘Pass the Envelope 2007’ (published late 2008).

 'High Ground' was awarded second prize in the FAW Mary Grant Bruce Short Story Award.

Karen won First Prize in the Society's 2009  Bicentenial awards with her story "Kay's Café.

Karen has also launched her book of short stories: All that and Everything.

 

Karen Turner Alice Landau

 

Alice launched her book Snippets from my Family Album  in March 2009.  Born in 1927, Alice found her life dramatically changed by WWII. Her book tells a powerful, difficult and fascinating story. Marlene has had a busy year so far. 

She won Second Prize in the Society's Biennial Literary Awards in the Poetry Section for her poem "Hot Air Platoon".

She co-judged the Spiritual Directors' International 2009 Poetry Competition. 

Her poem Kew Gardens, London was published in Westerly. The Mission and River-me are about to be published in the anthology Melbourne Reflections

The poem Ours (about the 2008 bushfires in Victoria) was published in Eureka Street 
and as an earlier versionCommunion in Earthsong journal.

Rebecca 
Maxwell

Rebecca ’s book “Blind and Busy” was written to honour the inventor of the braille language - a language created specifically for the blind and vision impaired - and celebrates two hundred years since the birth of Louis Braille.

The book was launched on the 18th of June at Guide Dogs Victoria in Kew to an audience of approximately seventy; family, friends and colleagues. The audience was treated to readings and songs by students and adults who read (and sang) their material by braille.

  Elizabeth. M. Thompson 

In July 2009, Elizabeth won first prize in the article section of the Society of Women Writers Vic. Inc. Biennial Literary Awards for her article "A Brief History of the Picnic".

Elizabeth is recording readings of fictional Letters From The Other Side for Del Nightingale's show Writers At Work on 98.7 F.M. Written versions of the letters will also be published by Peter Hinchcliffe on the United Kingdom site: Open Writing. 

She was also one of ten winners of the "Fifty Plus News" writing competition with her 750 word story "Jackhammer Evenings". Each issue of the newspaper for 2009 will feature one of the winning stories.

Elizabeth  had Veering Left, from her series Musings Of A Downsizer, two short stories Mother Baker's Hat,  and Best Friends, broadcast on the Arts Program of Vision Australia. Also a short story Tickets Please, broadcast on the Qld Story Teller program.

Veronica had an article, "It's in the post!' about our postal workshops in the VWC's 'Victorian Writer' for April 2009.

Judy had a poem published in Poetry Monash.

  

Margaret Amery White was highly commended for her story ‘Under the River Red’ in the Fellowship of Australian Writers’ short story competition in 2008.

 

 

Gwenyth Simcoe has been busy: 1st prize for a short story in the Department of Veteran Affairs Annual Writing and Art Competition. Published in DVA Anthology Bravo.

Honourable mention for an article ‘1914-1918 The War to End Wars’ in the DVA Writing and Art Competition.

Second prize for a short story in the Vision Australia National Literary Awards (for legally blind writers).
