CALENDAR OF EVENTS 2011

CONDUCTED BY THE SWWV

Last updated 21/05/2013

Take me back to the Home page.

At the end of each year the President along with her committee members work hard to prepare a program
of  interesting and motivational speakers, readings and workshops for the benefit of SWWV members.
We hope that 2012 is just as exciting and full of opportunities for all members.

Remember, everyone is welcome to contribute ideas. You don’t have to be on the committee, you just have to be interested!

DATES FOR 2013

31 MAY

We will be celebrating the announcement of the Nance Donkin Award.
This award honours the work of an Australian woman writer for children.
We will have the pleasure of members of Nance Donkin’s family with us.
The Society gives this award every two years as Nance Donkin wished, to
encourage a good writer of children’s books.
This will be the third time we present the award. The first two were
Doctor Ruth Starke of South Australia and Isabelle Carmody who lives in between
Melbourne and Prague.
Our judge this year is the children’s librarian at Fitzroy, Ms Jill Allan.
After lunch, Lynne Murphy will instruct us about how to write radio scripts.
Some of us will get a chance to read/act in a script.

28 JUNE

Janet Howie will speak about her book Footprint, a collection of memoir, poetry and haiku.
She will discuss the choice of title, the selection of material and the format.
Afterwards she will conduct a workshop on exploring and writing haiku.

26 JULY

Patrick White is one Australia’s iconic 20th century writers. He has a wide European experience that colours his characters. In July, we will be studying "The Tree of Life" with Sue Braint. It be beneficial if we had read the novel beforehand. Sue Braint warns us that "’The Tree of Man’ is uncomfortable reading experience, telling the epic story of ‘living and dying.’"
