This is a great opportunity for new and emerging Australian authors to showcase their work and nudge their way into the market. The prize is $500 and a written commendation. All short-listed entries will be published, and the authors of those entries will be invited to submit a brief bio to accompany their work. 27 April Get creative with the Cancer Council Arts Awards in 2012

 

For 15 years Arts Awards entrants have been painting, writing and sculpting pieces that reflect their cancer journey. The awards are open to people of all ages, from anywhere in the world. The theme for 2012 is "strength". It takes strength to face a diagnosis of cancer. Whether directly affected or by supporting a loved one, many will draw on their inner strength to help them through such a difficult time. 27 April The Common Thread Short Story Competition  The Common Thread Writing Group is offering a total of $700 in prize money for first and second prizes for this competition. The group is also offering an optional feedback report for an additional fee of $15. Winning stories will be offered publication in The Common Thread Anthology 2012. Entry fee $10. 30 April The Best of Times short story competition  For humorous short stories (any theme) up to 2500 words. First prize: $200, second prize: $50. 7 May 2012 Alan Marshall Short Story Award  Nillumbik Shire Council invites writers from Nillumbik and across Australia to enter this annual short story competition held in memory of the great writer and former resident of Eltham, Alan Marshall. The three categories in the Award are the Open Section - stories up to 2500 words by writers who reside in Australia, Local Writers' Section ? stories up to 2500 words by writers who live, work or study in the Shire of Nillumbik, and the Young Writers' Section ? stories up to 1000 words by writers aged between 15 and 19 years who reside in Australia.
