Sorrento Fire Brigade

Training

The training requirements for members who join the CFA have steadily increased over the years.

All CFA Brigades have a responsibility to their members and the communities they serve, to ensure all members are properly trained and ready to deal with any incident.

Generally new CFA members serve a six month probationary period where they are trained to a standard known as "minimum skills"

Some of the subjects covered are:

- Wildfire Behaviour
- Wildfire Suppression
- Communications
- Map reading
- Personal Protection
- Dynamic Risk Assessment
- Safety and Survival

Once minimum skills training is complete members are permitted to "turn out" and are issued with a pager to alert them to fires and incidents

The CFA also trains it's members in other areas such as Breathing Aparatus, Search and Rescue, Truck Driving, etc.

Training at Sorrento is held on the 1st, 2nd, and 4th Tuesdays of each month with the third Tuesday being a general Brigade meeting night.
