Sir John Franklin

John Franklin
was born in 1786. He became a noted explorer. He was appointed to his
cousin, Matthew Flinders' ship Investigator to explore the the coast of
Australia. He was knighted
in 1829.
Sir John Franklin was appointed as the 5th Governor of Tasmania in 1837 and held the position until 1843.
In 1845 he set out on a mission to find the "North West Passage" in
the Arctic Ocean. He never returned and many years latter search ships
found evidence that he had died on the
mission in 1847.
