The Stroke Association of Victoria Inc.
Mission Statement
To provide a range of support and information services, including
advocacy for people affected by stroke, their families and carers.
To create local peer support groups throughout the state, to improve the
stroke survivor’s quality of life through social interaction and friendship.
To increase public awareness of stroke, its causes and prevention.
The Stroke Association of Victoria is a not-for-profit organisation that was founded in 1984 to provide a range of support and information services to Stroke Survivors and their families.
We are a network of people whose lives have been changed by stroke and now volunteer our time to supporting stroke survivors and their families throughout Victoria.
Many people have been helped to regain their confidence, dignity and quality of life just by having someone in whom they can confide their innermost fears and concerns.
Their concerns are often lessened during their discussions
with our volunteers who have already experienced the trauma of stroke.
SAV personnel are all un-paid volunteers. We do not undertake medical research as all our resources are used to assist those in need, the stroke survivors and/or carers.
We are actively promoting stroke awareness and prevention within the community. We lobby Government agencies for the provision of stroke support services and we establish
support Stroke Support Groups throughout Victoria.
