Membership & Donations

Membership

Membership of SAV is available at three levels, these are :-

  • Single Membership - these are generally, (but not necessarily) a stroke person who has minimal dependency on other persons (carers).
  • Family Membership - these are generally husband and wife (or any other family member) or a survivor and carer.
  • Support Groups and Organisations - These include support groups (see the separate web page from the Menu, for more information of Stroke Support Groups) and all other interested groups/persons who care about stroke and its impact on the Australian community and who wish to support SAV and receive regular information about stroke.

  • As a member of SAV you always have someone available to provide emotional and moral support. We are an advocate who can be called upon when dealing with Government Departments or Medical Organisations. We regularly provide ongoing information on stroke and stroke recovery. We arrange seminars and workshops on stroke and organise a respite weekend for SAV members. Arrange for counselling and referral of members (if requested) to service providers where particular circumstances warrant support. We produce and distribute a quarterly magazine to members.

Membership includes subscription to our magazine 'Stroke Talk' which is published each quarter and is filled with interesting articles including:-

    • Human interest articles, experiences and inspirational anecdotes from contributors

    • What's new in stroke treatment and prevention, explained briefly and in simple form

    • What's new in issues affecting our members eg, pensions, pension disputes and by-law changes and improved entitlements.

    • Support Group news and other interesting items submitted by group members.

    • Coming events - dates to remember

    • An open invitation is offered to members to share their interests and how they occupy their life after stroke.  Details of implements and aids that have been created to help work around regular tasks that have become difficult since the stroke.

    • We are always wanting items that would be of interest to our members. The magazine is open to both members and any non-member who may have an item for publication that would be of interest to our members.
