Father John
John Griffiths comes from what was the dairy-farming district of Mt Larcom, in the Parish of Gladstone, in the Diocese of Rockhampton. He worked as a bank clerk before training for the Ministry at St Francis’ College, Brisbane. He was made Deacon in 1962 and Priested the following year by Bishop Theodore Bruce Mc Call in Springsure and Park Avenue. He moved to young, in the Diocese of Canberra – Goulburn in 1973, subsequently serving at St Paul’s Wagga Wagga and St Paul’s Manuka, where he was also appointed Archdeacon of South Canberra. John retired from full-time ministry in 1997 and moved to Melbourne where he has occupied himself in Locum ministries, gardening, theatre, music – he is actively involved with “The Friends of The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra”, who meet in each others homes to listen to the host’s choice of music. Barbara, John’s wife for 35 years died in 2000. They have two daughters and a treasured part of John’s life is to baby sit his granddaughter of 16 months for one day each week. The Archbishop has appointed the Rev’d
John Griffiths to be our locum until
further notice. It is a half-time appointment.

David Byrne is a graduate in Arts and Music from Melbourne University. He studied organ with Sergio de Pieri and Douglas Lawrence and was appointed to his first church music post at the age of 16. He has been Organist and Choirmaster in several parishes in Melbourne. For nine years David was Director of Music at St Peter¹s College, Adelaide and prior to that thirteen years as Director of Music at Grimwade House, Melbourne Grammar School. He is currently Assistant Director of Music at Camberwell Grammar, where many of the boys in our parish attend school. David’s expertise in education and choral music has been enriched by periods of study in Europe and the UK, observing cathedral choirs, playing many grand organs and as a postgraduate student of the renowned composer and music educator John Paynter at the University of York.

Jo White is our Youth and Family
Minister. Jo is a candidate for Holy Orders, currently finishing her training for the priesthood at Trinity Theological School. Jo grew up in Bennetswood, near Burwood, and she went to Strathcona Girls Grammar School, Canterbury. She is married to Ken who is a piano teacher and they have a son. Before beginning her studies in Theology, Jo was a Primary School teacher where she taught art, music and drama. She has a Bachelor of Theology, a Graduate Diploma in Music Education and a Diploma of Teaching, with a major in Drama. Jo’s hobbies include visiting fine art exhibitions, going to the theatre and ballet, listening to popular and classical music, cooking, walking and roller-blading.
