In memoriam

Hedley Jones

I want to take this opportunity to record our thanks at St Paul's for the life and ministry of Hedley Jones. Many of you will know that Hedley died peacefully on December 30th and his funeral was held at his old church Golden Square Uniting on January 2. Hedley told us that was his wish if the cathedral was still not available.

Hedley has been a wonderful priest, support and encouragement to many of us at St Paul's, taking Holy Communion to many who were sick and in various nursing homes, including regular worship at Mirridong, Bentleys and Victoria Heights. He enjoyed the Tuesday Iona Communion here with a number of you.

I am sad that he was not well enough to preach on Composers' Sunday last year as he had begun preparing a very interesting sermon that was mentioned at his funeral. In 2008 on Back to Choir Sunday he preached not on his love of music but of music as a way to worship God.

I found Hedley a great encourager and source of wisdom for my own ministry and I am sure many of you did too. He will be sadly missed.

Blessings,
Peta
