Marriage

Thank you -

for your interest in getting married at St Oswald's Church. The Church building is well suited to the great occasion of a Marriage. The church seats 200 people comfortably. The space at the front of the Church (with the communion rails removed) provides an adequate space for the Bridal group and ceremony. Our organ provides good quality music as required, along with CD player for other kinds of music.

To be Married you need -

• To give adequate notice of your intention to be married. This is not usually a difficulty as you have to make most arrangements well in advance. Legally, you need to give one calendar month plus one day's notice of your intention; the legal document for this is called the Notice of Intended Marriage.

• Evidence of your date of birth and parents names, including your mothers' maiden names.

• People who are divorced will need to bring their decree nisi for completing the necessary forms.

• One partner needs to have been Baptised i.e. received the sign of faith.
Preparation for Baptism is recommended as it helps you enter into the spirituality of the Marriage.

• To attend some form of marriage education as recommended by the Commonwealth. This is a good opportunity to step aside from all the busyness and nurture your relationship. We recommend the 'LifeWorks' programmes, which are inexpensive and a real investment in your relationship.

• To have three meetings with the Minister. These are (1) to complete the details noted above; (2) to go over what you've gained from the marriage education course and think through the marriage ceremony itself along with a choice of music, readings and hymns you want; (3) a rehearsal in the week prior to the ceremony including signing the final paperwork.

We Provide you with -

• A CD or tape of church music for the service;

• Some suitable readings;

• Flowers that will blend with the colours of the bridal party;

• A copy of the Service we use at St Oswald's. There are some choices with this service, although the marriage vows can't be changed;

• Help in preparing any service booklet you may want to produce. This would be your responsibility to produce.

What Does it Cost?

We're not in this to make money, only to cover the costs involved. The costs to be met are for the Organists fee, a contribution to the flowers, a donation to the church and its ministry. Currently this comes to $450.00.
