Baptism
Thank
you -
for your interest in Baptism. The requirements are not too hard and
are chosen so that you can come to the Baptism service with confidence
and hope for your child's Christian beginnings.
We ask that you -
• Worship with us for three or more occasions in the months leading
to the Baptism. Service times are at 8.00 am and 10.00 am on Sundays.
We have a Sunday Club for children at 10.00 am; and a children's room
at the back of the Church.
• Read through the leaflets and discuss them together and with
the Vicar.
• Come with the godparents ? if available ? to a rehearsal for
the service in the week prior to the Baptism.
• Complete the application form and make a time with the Vicar
for the rehearsal and the date of the Baptism. Baptisms take place on
the first Sunday of each month at the 10.00 am Parish Eucharist.
St. Oswald's
- is part of the worldwide Communion (Network) of Anglican Churches.
Anglican Churches hold to the faith of the ancient Church, are led by
Bishops, practice the sacraments of Holy Baptism and the! Eucharist,
and hold the Holy Scriptures as their guide for faith and life
- is a pilgrim people i.e. we believe life is a journey which is marked
by various rites of passage, like Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation,
Marriage.
Baptism is the main and first way we are Initiated (or Introduced) into
the Way of Jesus Christ. Every baptised person needs to grow in their
trust in God and so release the gifts of God given in baptism.
