About our kindergarten... There are homely tasks and artistic activities to do and see. These are balanced with story telling, singing, games and playtime. Children receive daily nourishment from the telling of simple nature stories and fairy tales and from rhythmic circle games, finger plays and songs. Children are given time to play - to use their imagination and to learn to conjure up ideas for their play from within themselves. The Steiner educators are present in the kindergarten but they leave the children free to play and meet each other, free to be children. In meeting and playing creatively with each other the children learn important interpersonal skills. The adult plays an important role in this. A rich supply of natural materials provided at the Kinder gives scope for imagination in play, which refined toys purchased in toy shops often deny. Children can learn to enjoy building, making constructions and patterns with these materials. The young child up to 7 years lives very much in his will and likes to be doing and moving. At times the outdoor activities of climbing, swinging, watering plants, digging, chasing and playing in the sandpit predominate play. At quieter times children are given space to watch the clouds or the bees on the dandelion, and to cut flowers for the morning tea table. Children are encouraged to be a part of creative and meaningful activities such as bread making, water colour painting, cooking, drawing and eurhythmy (an art form which involves expression of sounds in our language, through movement). A morning tea is shared with a candle and blessing. The shared meal consists of fruit and something the children have helped make during kinder time. The end of the kinder day is finished with a story told in the ancient tradition of story telling before saying goodbye. |

Our Pre School has been operating since 1987. In 2007 our name changed to Taraleigh Steiner Pre-School Inc. and we moved to our beautiful premises within the East Bentleigh Primary School. We offer; "Older Group" for children who turn four by the end of the year prior to starting. Can apply from March, three years prior to starting. Currently Thursday and Friday 9.30am - 2.30pm and $560 term. "Younger Group" for children who turn three by 30th September the year prior to starting. Can apply from March, two years prior to starting. Currently Monday and Tuesday 9.30am - 1.00pm and $400 per term. and "Playgroup" for young children and their parents. You may also apply by filling out a paper application. In either case, applications are only considered once the registration fee of $50.00 (inc.
