The Stawell Biarri Group for Genealogy's AGM will be held on Wednesday 21st July commencing at 7.30pm at the Stawell Library.

Aims:

Our aims are two-fold:

1. to provide resources and assistance so that people from the Stawell region can undertake wide-ranging Family History research locally; and
2. to help people from throughout the world undertake Stawell Family History research.

To this end we hold an extensive and growing collection of books, microfiche and CD ROM, a License to borrow films from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and we have local knowledge and a wide range of local resources, via.:

• Cemetery Records
• Church Registers
• Hospital Admissions
• School Registers
• Births, Deaths, Marriages
• Local History Books & Magazines

Stawell is located on the Western Highway approximately 240 km north-west of Melbourne (the Capital of Victoria, Australia). It is the western-most part of the Victorian Goldfields, alluvial gold having been discovered there, at 'Pleasant Creek', in 1853 and quartz gold, at 'The Reefs', in about 1856. The area has a rich history and is a starting point for genealogy for many families which came to Victoria and were caught up in the search for gold. Map supplied by Wilkins Tourist Maps.
