Market Street Signal Bridge, Melbourne, Australia

More correctly known as No.1 signal bridge of Flinders Street A signal box, the Market Street signal bridge was a familiar sight until the end of the 1970's for railwaymen and the travelling public. Used to control trains coming from the Viaduct into Flinders Street station, it was taken out of service on 27 October 1979 when then mechanical signalling at Flinders Street A was abolished and replaced with power signalling.

The redundant signal bridge was taken down and set aside so that one day it could be restored and erected at the ARHS Railway Museum. Due to the sheer size of the major components, these have had to be stored outside in various locations around the Newport Workshops. With rust starting to take a serious hold in places, in August 2003 a group of enthusiasts from the Signalling Record Society Victoria and the Australian Railway Historical Society Victorian Division joined forces to restore the signal bridge.
