Enviro Tips
- Avoid / weed out ENVIRONMENTAL WEEDS.
- IVY will strangle trees; at the very least, do not allow it to grow upwards when it will develop seeds which are then spread by birds into your environment.
- PITTOSPORUM. When birds carry their seeds into bushland areas, the Pittosporums will eventually suppress all the undergrowth including flowering bushes, orchids etc. As Pittosporums have male and female trees, their spread can be controlled by clearing the seed-bearing trees.
- BIRDS are an important part of your local ecosystem: encourage indigenous birds by providing nesting facilities, such as safe refuges in dense bushes, nesting boxes etc. and planting suitable (indigenous) plants. At the same time discourage unwanted birds by not feeding birds. Provide safe bird baths. (People at BOCA will readily provide more information on these aspects.)
- Indigenous plants help save water and are more suited to our local climate. If you need convincing, check out the water situation: Water reservoirs and consumption
