Fore Sail

Mr Keith Watson, a member of the Club from 1993 until his death 8 years ago, had built several models. These had been kept by his wife, who has now also died, and the family have presented  the Club with five of Keith's much loved boats with the following request:

"As Mr Watson enjoyed being a member of Surrey Park very much they would like the boats to be sold to Club members with the funds received from the sale being donated to the Club.

They would like Club members who are unable to build their own boats to have the first opportunity to purchase the boats."

It is the Committee’s firm position that these boats are purchased to be used by members on the lake and not purchased to be disposed of for financial gain.

 1) The committee will sell the boats by a written tender process during March 2011. As many members as possible will be advised of the impending sale by email, by the Club notice board or via the Club Website.

·                 The Tendering period will begin after the 6 March 2011 Club meeting and will close on 27 March 2011

·                 Tenderers should submit their ‘bid’ in writing, in a sealed envelope, to the Secretary. Please put the number of the boat for which you are tendering on the outside of the envelope.

2) As the models have all been dormant for many years there is no guarantee they are operative.

3) Although members may tender for all the boats only one model may be bought by a member

4) Boats unsold after the sale period will be offered to all members in an open auction or otherwise sold.

5) The decision on acceptance of any offer will be at the sole discretion of the committee.

6) In the pre-sale period boats may be inspected but not altered or any parts removed.

7) As there are five boats and only three 29 Mhz transmitters two boats will be sold without transmitters.

8) The steam driven boat has been checked, the relief valves correctly set and a test run carried out by experienced club members.

However the integrity of the boiler and pipe-work and engine and any future pressure testing that may be required will be the sole responsibility of the new owner.

 9) Any member who wishes to purchase a boat but may have difficulties in making a payment may be granted time to pay. Please discuss this with the Secretary prior to purchase.

10) The committee reserves the right to maintain an undisclosed reserve price on any model.

11) Assistance will be available to those members who would like to purchase a boat but who feel their mechanical/modeling ability is not up to the standard of the work required.

Any questions that may arise concerning this process may be directed to the Secretary.
