Lynne Edey
From the monumental scale of earlier stone works to the more linear and
conceptual sculptures in bronze as seen in her current work, Edey has
preserved a sense of monument. Edey's sculpture, evolving for over twenty
years, is not concerned to represent any narrative, but creates a metaphysical
world through the artist's profound sense of humanity. The works in the
exhibition are reminiscent of De Chirico with a Klee like wit and with
a suggestion of antiquity. Edey has the ability to represent the human
form simply, yet with intense emotion. Struck by the impressive power
of art1s history, Edey has added her own layer of
creativity to those of the past. The work resinates in contemporary city
interiors and in beach, desert and bush landscapes.
