Your letters count
Letter writing does have an impact. It is well recognized that twenty hand written letters from the public are significant to any politician. They represent around 2000 voters.

Non-locals please write too!
You may have a stake in saving this land even if you don’t live in the local area. Green space issues transcend municipal boundaries. Government should be responsive to the needs and wishes of all local communities. Let Steve Bracks know you care. More

Dear Mr Bracks

I want to express my concern about the proposed sale of land which is currently part of the Oakleigh South Primary School grounds.

I do not believe this land should be sold for residential development. It is needed and used extensively by the community for sport and recreational activities. The land has been a public asset for 44 years and should be retained as public parkland.

This land is adjacent to a school and two large private golf courses. This enhances its aesthetic appeal, environmental impact and general value as green space worth saving.

In its Melbourne 2030 - planning for sustainable growth policy action plan your government claims it will "Improve the quality and distribution of local open space and ensure long-term protection of public open space" and " Rectify gaps in the network of metropolitan open space by creating new parks and ensure major open space corridors are protected and enhanced".

A recent report on open space in suburban Melbourne cited the City of Monash as being one of the poorest green space municipalities in Melbourne. A further loss would be terrible and irretrievable. I ask that your government abide by its own policies and guarantee to secure this land as open space.

Yours sincerely

Joe Bloggs
