Greens
launch symbolizes support
|

|
On
Monday November 18th local Greens candidates launched their
campaign in Riley Street with the launch of a big green kite
over the land we are trying to save. This gesture of support
for our campaign was much appreciated by the many locals who
came to watch. More

| On
Wednesday November 19th the Federation Park Committee sent a letter
to each of the Greens candidates in the coming state election. In
this letter we asked the candidates the questions shown at right.
We will post any answers we receive in this section. |
As
you are .... a candidate in the coming state election, on behalf of
the local community we would like to ask you the following questions:
- What
is your current position with regard to this issue?
- If
elected what action will you take to assist us in securing this
land as public parkland?

Heather
Welsh has contacted the Federation Park Committee and indicated
support for our campaign. In a message to our YOUR
SAY forum she outlined some possible options for
retaining the land as a public asset. Ms Welsh also took part in
the Greens campaign launch at the Federation Park site.
In
the state election she will be standing against Liberal candidate
Denise McGill, Labor candidate John Lenders and Democrats candidate
Polly Morgan.
We
have not yet received a reply to our letter from Ms Welsh.

Mr
Kirby will be standing against Labor MP Mr Hong Lim and Liberal
candidate Mr Andrew Wong.
George
Kirby's election flyer includes a photo of the Federation Park site
and lists Public Open Space as one of his policies.
He writes Public open space is essential to the community.
Currently the Government plans to sell much of our open space to
developers, including part of Oakleigh South Primary School, known
as Federation Park. The Greens believe that public space should
be retained for public use. For more information on Federation Park
visit: http://home.vicnet.net.au/~sosc.
Thanks
for your support Mr Kirby!
We
have not yet received a reply to our letter from Mr Kirby.
