SCATS LRH Annual  Appeal – 2003

Singithi Suva Surekuma

 

(Organised in aid of  Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Sri Lanka. A project influenced by Good Friday Appeal in Melbourne for Royal Children's Hospital)

 

 Initiated in year 2000 and now in to its  4th  consecutive year, this project so far has provided much needed essential medical equipment that are used in Intensive Care, Emergency Care and Cardiac Units of Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Sri Lanka. Thanks to donors in Melbourne, Sydney and other states in Australia and in Singapore, We have managed to donate  almost A$50,000 worth(Australian Market Value)  new equipment that are approved by Ministry of Health for use in Sri Lanka,  as   requested by LRH, purchased directly from manufacturers  at a  special concession price  of about  $26,000 collected through first two years of appeal. Equipment  handover ceremonies were conducted in the presence of Australian High Commissioner, Minister of Health, Director of LRH & officials of SCATS Sri Lanka branch  in 2001 and 2002. This years appeal  was launched on 27th April and peak  fund raising activities are about to begin from July/August period. Lady Ridgeway Hospital has requested  us to help them buying a ‘Blood Gas Analyser’ if we can raise  a total  of about A$15,000.  Details of Fund Raising events  and other activities will be announced through  Media Partners in Australia   for this project such as 3ZZZ, Lak Handa, 3SER, Serendib News and Pahana during next few weeks. Launch of the appeal  for 2003in Australia will be done  on 16th th March 2003 , at Clayton Hall. Melway 79 C2 - 1pm, during the Food Fair.

The money raised from this year's appeal will be used to purchase some urgently needed equipment for the Emergency Wards of the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Sri Lanka- the one and only Specialist Teaching hospital for kids in Sri Lanka.
