Flood Relief activities to Sri Lanka (June 2003)

Sri Lanka faced with worst flood disaster  for last 50 year in recent weeks. SCATS in collaboration with SCATS Sri Lanka and Bellanwila Social Foundations attached to the Bellanwila Temple  co-ordinated some relief  activities in Sri Lanka, concentrating on children welfare and educatinal needs. First effort was to send immediate help to students shwo have been affected in Sri Lanka and few consignements have been already sent to Sri  Lanka through Trico Maritime Australia and planning to send more stationary and school needs through  Trico Maritime and Travel Talk Shipping Services in early July(4th). Thanks for those who donated items to Sri Lanka and  for shipping agents who provided  Contact  Chandra Weerakoon -03-97595155.

Sathsara Prasanga- Musical Show - Friday 20th June 2003 - Was successfully conducted thanks to the support of Sri Lankans in Melbourne. Al proceeds from  ticket sales of this project will be used to reconstruct flood damaged buildings of ‘Kamburupitiya Primary School’ in Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Project Supervision:SCATS International Resource Centre,SCATS Sri Lanka & Bellanvila Social Foundation in co-ordination with relevant Ministries of  Government of Sri Lanka. Patron: Most Ven. Our Technology/Concept Transfer & Social Welfare Projects for 02/03

1) Our Major Project - SCATS LRH APPEAL

'SINGITHI SUVA SUREKUMA 2003'

- International Appeal for the Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital in Sri Lanka

(Fund Raising activities for 2003 will be carried out from 27th April till October 03, Major events will take place on 2nd August and 24th August) 






 


2) Computers to remote Schools in Sri Lanka -  We sent few more computers to Sri Lanka on this project on 20th June 2003. This is in addition to computers handed over to Bellanwila Social Foundation on Jan 2003. More information can be obtained from Dr Priyantha Mendis 03-8344 7244>

3)FOSTER CARE - Student Assistance Scholarship Program:

 As little as $5 a week can make the life of  a chid/family in need much more beautiful than you can imagine....

SCATS Australia & SCATS Sri Lanka have initiated this Student Assistance Program to help talented students from poor families in remote villages of Sri Lanka.For more details....

of the SCATS Foster Care program, click here. Photograph:Chaturi is the eldest daughter in a family of four children whose parents do not have a reliable means of income. She is currently a very talented student from Kandalama Maha Vidyalaya(Secondary School) in Dambulla electorate in North Central Province in Sri Lanka.SCATS Foster Care Student Assistance Programme will help her continue higher studies and fulfill her ambitions.


 4)SCATS International Resource project  - Sri Lanka  -  The opening ceremony was held on  23rd March 2002 at  Bellanwila Temple/Social Foundation in Sri Lanka.  

This project was initiated in 2002   in association with Bellanwila Social Foundation to provide  much needed resources to  tertiary students and professionals  engaged in academic research and to co-ordinate some of the special projects we conduct to  improve the quality of education, Tehnology know-how  and health facilities  in Sri  Lanka. We  continue to build facilities of  this resource centre with the support and donations from Sri Lankan community in Australia.  Chair Person of the resource centre is Most Ven Prof Bellanwila Thero. Going Global...SCATS International

SCATS (Australia) organisation is planning to spread its activities with the help of the Sri Lankan communities in other countries.
If any Sri Lankan Organisation or other individuals in countries of American, European and Asian continents who are interested in contacting SCATS and affiliate with SCATS or share their experience on Technology Transfer or other social welfare projects in Sri Lanka, please send your email to this address or other contact information. As per our experience, combined efforts of organisations that have similar goals would bring more beneficial results in major social welfare or technology transfer programs. So, why don't you share your efforts with SCATS on projects that may make some people's lives in Sri Lanka more happier. Thanks for all those who contacted us from US, Australia and from New Zealand in recent weeks.
SCATS Australia is also planning to form a global professional network among interested Sri Lankan professionals and experts, to help Sri Lanka achieving advancements in areas of Science & technology, arts & culture and social welfare during 1999.
