Our Code of behaviour exists for a very good reason, to ensure that we achieve or goals of providing a fun, family friendly environment for athletes and parents alike.  Any breaches of this code are taken very seriously and acted upon.

For OFFICIALS:

  • Compliment all participants on their efforts

  • Be consistent, objective and courteous in calling all infractions

  • Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for all opponents

  • Ensure that the 'spirit of the game' for children is not lost by using common sense and not over-emphasising errors

  • Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the participant

  • Publicly encourage and reinforce the principles of participants for fun and enjoyment

  • Ensure that your behaviour is consistent with the principles of good sporting behaviour

  • Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed of sound officiating principles and the principles of growth and development of children

  • Avoid the use of bad language and derogatory language based on gender

  • Do not use physical or verbal abuse, or practice any inappropriate behaviour

For COACHES:

  • Teach athletes that rules of the sport are mutual agreements which no-one should evade or break

  • Whenever possible, group athletes to give a reasonable chance of success

  • Avoid over-playing the talented athletes. The 'just average' athletes need and deserve equal time

  • Remember that children participate for fun and enjoyment and that winning is only part of their motivation. Never ridicule or yell at the children for making mistakes or losing a competition

  • Ensure that equipment and facilities meet safety standards and are appropriate to the age and ability of the athletes

  • Take into consideration the maturity level of the children, when scheduling and determining the length of practice times and competition

  • Develop athletes respect for the ability of opponents as well as for the judgement of officials and opposing coaches

  • Make a personal commitment to keeping yourself informed of sound coaching principles and the principles of growth and development of children

  • Avoid the use of bad language and derogatory language based on gender. Do not use physical or verbal abuse, or practice any inappropriate behaviour

For ATHLETES:

  • Be good sports

  • Compete for enjoyment

  • Work hard for the Centre as well as yourself

  • Treat all opponents the way you would like to be treated

  • Compete within the rules of the event and the Centre

  • Cooperate with all officials

  • Control your behaviour on and off the track

  • Learn to value honest effort, skilled performance and continued improvement

For PARENTS and SPECTATORS:

  • Encourage participation by your children

  • Be a good role model for sports behaviour

  • Be courteous to athletes, officials and other spectators

  • Children compete for enjoyment. Discourage the 'win at all cost' mentality

  • Make any new parents welcome on all occasions

  • Do not interfere with the conduct of an event

  • Do not abuse any child, particularly your own

  • Reward the performances of all athletes with generous praise and applause
