What is an Aged Care Assessment Team?
ACATs (Aged Care Assessment Teams) are usually based at a hospital, geriatric centre or community centre and can see people in their own home. Your local Team might include a doctor, nurse, social worker, occupational therapist and physiotherapist.
Services for people at home
Older people in Australia today have a lot of alternatives for their care and support to choose from. For instance, there are Home and Community Care (HACC) services which help you to continue living in your own home with the assistance of a Community Aged Care Package.
- home nursing & respite
- daycare
- support at home
- a short stay in a hostel
Nursing home or hostel care
You might be thinking about moving into a hostel. In a hostel, you can live independently, but get help with:
- meals and laundry
- personal care such as dressing, medication and showering
This range of services doesn't always make it easy to decide what the right choice is for you. ACATs can provide information to help you make these choices.
