Silky Information
NOT JUST A PRETTY FACE
The silky is certainly not just a pretty face. Several members
have successfully trained and attained Obedience titles.
History was
recently created with the first Australian Silky Terrier
gaining his and AD (Agility Dog) and JD (Jumping Dog) titles in Australia. So
there really is more to a silky than lovely long hair and looking glamorous
They are smart and intelligent. Training should start as early as 6 weeks. Obedience classes are held every weekend. (Check locations with the VCA).
YOUR PET SILKY
The silky is a loving and caring dog. Protective and the perfect watchdog. It is a very active breed and every inch a Terrier, inquisitive and very alert. Not always the lap dog that small dogs have a reputation for. It is emphasised again that they are a Terrier first and foremost - don't be fooled by the title of "Toy" these little rascals were originally bred to hunt and kill rodents.
CARING FOR YOUR SILKY
Make sure you vaccinate your silky. When you purchase your pet at the age of 8 weeks they should have already had one lot of vaccinations and you should have received from the breeder a vaccination certificate. Be weary if this is not the case.
The nails should be clipped regularly, and ears kept clean and free from hair. (Talk to the breeder of unsure about the above). Its not hard to learn to do these simple tasks and ensures that your pet is happy and free of discomfort.
