Squadron environs 1970's

Squadron Motto of the 70's : Let's not tell the OC he wouldn't want to know

Whadda ya mean you saw some sig blokes knocking it off??

In the 1970's the squadron was located at the end of the Lavarack Barracks across the road from the Commanders Mess and Task Force Headquarters. It consisted of a compound which housed all elements of the squadron with a two story administration building nearby. That was where the hierarchy resided.

Another scene of the compound. The author remembers spending time in these bays.

These pictures are not mind blowing but they should bring back a few memories for everyone.

Compound

The building in the middle of the picture is Admin Building.

Check out the ancient vehicles. But some were even roadworthy and the odd bloke had a licence to drive in Queensland!

Just past the Landrover was the entrance into the compound and behind the Admin building was the squadron parade ground. Not a bitumen one but a nice lawned affair. We attended to it three times daily. Morning parade after PT, after lunch parade and knock off parade.

The Duty NCO had the privilege of taking the squadron after lunch and knock off parade (if my memory serves me correctly!!)

That must be reason why so many of our ex-members ended up in the Reggie stream. Hmmmmm!!

Here we have a sacred site, I mean of course the Coca-Cola machine. The offices where the home to various mobs namely Radio Troop, RATT Dets and Syd McDonalds retirement villa better known as the Transport Office. Oh I nearly forget the dunny

This what the carpark looks like from inside what was the ZOO. Again another fine collection of priceless pieces of machinery. The author has been known to sleep on that road so as not to be late for an exercise.

A view of det bays which if memory serves me correctly the one on the right was Comcen Troops, where that master of the jack plug, matches and elastic bands did reside.
