Priorities defined by the February 1996 SICSAL Assembly in Guatemala:-

1. promote awareness of and activism against neo-liberal economic strategies, highlighting the negative implications of these for the poor of the South;

2. accompaniment and support to national socio-political processes in Mexico (focus: Chiapas); Guatemala; El Salvador; Nicaragua; Haiti; and Cuba;

3. support through Church structures the international campaign for the pardoning of the foreign debt of the countries of the South;

4. support migrants and refugees through advocacy and through practical material, moral and spiritual support;

5. support the national campaigns for the removal of US military bases from other nations (esp. Cuba, Panama and Japan);

6. support campaigning efforts globally for demilitarization and for reduction of arms production.
