MEDIA &
PUBLICITY OFFICER
BRIEF
DESCRIPTION
The
function of the Media & Publicity person is to assist in the growth and
development of Australian Plants Society Yarra Yarra Group by ensuring a regular
and effective flow of information to appropriate media, local government,
environmental groups and selected commercial outlets.
This
is a voluntary position.
THE PURPOSE OF PUBLICITY
To raise the public profile of APS
Yarra Yarra. Regular publicity via a variety of media helps to create and
maintain an awareness of our activities, promotes membership growth, and assists
the development of links with local community and environmental groups.
REPORTING
TO
The Media
& Publicity person will report to the President and Committee of APS Yarra
Yarra.
ESTIMATED
TIME COMMITMENT
About 4–6 hours per month
KEY
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Present reports to and liaise with the Committee on matters
to be promoted
- Search for and create opportunities to promote APS Yarra
Yarra in all media outlets, especially local newspapers
- Write or arrange for feature articles on matters of interest
to APS Yarra Yarra members
- Liaise with Treasurer to develop a budget for information
delivery
- Attend APS Yarra Yarra general meetings
- Organise irregular publicity in the form of brochures and
signs at any public display involving APS Yarra Yarra, and at nurseries in the
district, local libraries, council offices, and tourist, arts and cultural
venues
REQUIREMENTS
OF THE POSITION
- Access to computer; basic computer and internet skills
essential
- Access to and ability to use a digital camera
- Understanding
of the principles of marketing and how the media work
- Ability to keep good records
- Membership of APS Vic and Yarra Yarra Group
