How To Join The Myrtleford State Emergency Service

Although it is reasonably easy to join the SES, there are a few requirements that you must meet before you can be approved to join a unit. You will need to undergo a police check that will ascertain if you have any serious convictions. If the check confirms any serious convictions for any crime you will not be approved to join the SES.

You will need to be reasonably fit, both mentally and physically. Some of the tasks we conduct require a clear mind to be able to make logical decisions under stressful situations. We sometimes work with other emergency services, such as the police, who require a very high level of professionalism from us.

We generally recommend that new members attend a training night and discuss concerns with the unit Controller prior to signing any paperwork. During these training sessions you can speak with unit members and get a feel for the various types of work we do.

There is a degree of commitment required from you if you should decide to join the SES. We are required to be available to assist the local community should an incident occur. You need to understand that you will be required to attend regular training sessions and turn up for callouts when you are able.

You can gain more information by attending the local unit located in Jubilee Avenue Myrtleford on any Monday night except when they fall on public holidays, between 7.30pm and approximately 9.30pm.

Or you can call our headquarters on ( 5752 2122 ) during these hours to ask any questions you may have.
