Approximately
every 6 months Knox SES conducts an 'Induction Night' at the Knox Local
Head Quarters (LHQ) for potential applicants to come and see what the Knox
SES has to offer and what you can do for your local community.
Prerequisites
for Membership
- Be over the age of 18
- Attend Knox LHQ every Monday night for training (you
must attend at least 60% of relevant training)
- Pass a Victorian police check
- Live within 8 minutes of the Knox LHQ (Not Mandatory)
- Be
available to be 'on call' one week out of three during non working
hours (or be available for shifts during the day if responding as a day crew member)
- Have a willingness to learn and work in a team
environment
- Complete a medical capacity declaration form
After
your application has been approved you will commence a 3 month training
course (Gold Team) covering topics on the equipment we use, safety, first aid and
the methodologies used in rescue situations.
These
training courses are conducted 'in house' at Knox LHQ every Monday
night starting at 7:30pm. A key focus of all training sessions will be individual
safety and safety for other members in your team. Knox SES encourages and enforces best OH&S policy and practice.
Some of
the topics covered will be:
- Knots and types of rope used
- Hand tools
- Hand winches, anchor points and holdfasts
- Lighting, power generators and equipment
- Communications
- Casualty handling
- Lifting and stability equipment
- Chainsaws
- Storm damage
