Knox SES is managed by a dedicated group of volunteers and operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to serve the Knox community and other communities as required.
Unit Structure
Like all organisations, Knox SES has a defined leadership structure consisting of the following:
- A Controller
- A Deputy Controller
- Several Specialist Staff Officers -
- Rescue Officer
- Vehicle and Equipment Officer
- Training Officer
- Communications Officer
- Public Relations Officer
- OH&S Officer
These Officers are supported by the Knox Unit's volunteers.
Tasks
The tasks that the volunteers undertake are diverse and demanding and therefore require a high level of ongoing training. The nature of the tasks demands discipline, dedication and a passion for assisting the community. Regardless of the task and the time of day, the volunteers must be ready to perform at their peak to provide a professional and timely service.
Some of the tasks that volunteers respond to include:
Road Crash Rescue
-
Industrial Rescue
-
Domestic Rescue (eg: child with finger stuck in the bathplug)
-
Search and Rescue
-
Storm Damage
-
Flooding
-
Urban search and rescue (eg earthquake, building collapse)
-
Assist Fire, Police and Ambulance
-
Public relations, etc.
Teams
As Knox SES operates all year round, volunteers are required to respond on an ‘on call’ basis. To facilitate this, Knox SES currently operates with 3 night teams and 1 day team. This allows for volunteers to be ‘on-call’ for 1 week in every 3. Night response is from 6.00pm to 6.00am and all day on the weekend and day response is from 6.00am to 6.00pm.
The teams are managed by a Team Leader and Deputy Team Leader who are responsible for the rostering and general team management functions.
Training
Training is conducted every Monday night from 7.30pm to approximately 10.30pm with additional training on other days or weekends where necessary.
The volunteers train for all tasks that they may be called upon to assist with.
Funding
Knox SES receives funding from all levels of government, Federal, State and Local along with generous donations from the Knox community.
Knox SES volunteers conduct a range of fundraising activities throughout the year to facilitate the ongoing costs of equipment replacement and the day to day running costs of the Unit.
Tax deductible donations (over $2) can be made to Knox SES. Please forward your donation to:
