Training
SES places a great emphasis on the need for good training and skills maintenance. All members who join the SES are trained within their unit by qualified assessors. A fundamentals process leads all members to obtaining a general rescue qualification, equipping them with all of the basic skills required to participate in a rescue operation. A Level 2 first aid certificate is required by all members, as SES has a large focus on casualty handling and injury management due to the nature of the emergencies we attend.
Our unit has general training on a Tuesday night, where each week our training team compiles a new area of training for us to update our skills in. All training and operational activity is recorded within personal logbooks so we know our volunteers are competent.
Additional training programs are on offer throughout the year and are usually run in conjunction with regional SES support staff. This ensures the volunteers across the state are highly trained in what we do and possess the most up to date skills that make the SES such a professional emergency service.
