SES Tips
Our volunteers have compiled a few things to remember to keep yourself and your family safe in an emergency situation.
Drive Safety
Ensure your vehicle is in good order before departing
Take regular rest breaks
Drive according to the road and weather conditions
Take a ’15 minute Powernap’
Pull over at an SES Driver Reviver site
Storm Safety
Secure all objects before the storm hits
Stay inside
Ensure your spouts and drains are clear of leaves
Bushwalking Safety
Tell somebody where you are going and when you will be back
Take adequate food, water, warm clothing, matches
Know the area and have recent Maps, a compass, GPS if available
Take a charged mobile phone or portable radio
Wear appropriate clothing and footwear
If you get lost, Stay Put, DO NOT keep walking
If in a group, stay together and listen for searchers or other walkers
4X4 Safety
Always tell somebody where you are going
Take appropriate recovery equipment
Don’t attempt a track beyond your capabilities
Take a phone or CB radio
Boating Safety
Thoroughly check your boat before leaving
Ensure all safety equipment is present and operational
Tell Somebody where you are going and when you will return
Take communications equipment
Don’t use old fuel
Flood Safety
Move to high ground
Be aware of floating objects, eg trees and debris
Stay together
