1. Raffles:

November 2009. At the last volunteer dinner for the year which was held at the end of November, I did a raffle.  Everyone bought tickets which raised $75. At the end of the evening people were donating the change from their meal, which was another $32.  What a great group of people I have supporting me!

$107.00

2. Trivia Nights

Saturday, 20 March 2010:  We held the second Serendib Trivia Night where 75 people attended.

We had 60 raffle's, silent auctions, games and of course Sri Lankan food.  We sold a lot of small items I had brought from Sri Lanka last year.

The takings for the evening were, $1781-00 and after expenses, a profit of $1200 - was recorded.

Once again, Jeremy hosted the evening and a great time was had by all.  A special thank you to all who helped with setting up the event; without your assistance, the night would not have been the success it was!

Saturday, 6 June 2009: 75 paying guests attended In My Heart Serendib's inaugural Trivia / Curry Night fundraiser which was held at Merinda Park Community Centre in Cranbourne North.

Jeremy West and Denise McConville did a fantastic job hosting the evening. Dammika & Desha worked very hard to provide everyone with piping hot plain and egg hoppers which were enjoyed with the chicken curry, dahl and seni sambal.

We had gathered 50 raffle prizes from many generous donors which were drawn continuously through the evening. The winning table — Jeanette Bell, family & friends — won a large hamper with a variety of items which Jeanette assured me would be shared equally among the group of winners.

A number of questions and answers provoked vigorous discussion. Sometimes the ajudicators won, sometimes the audience won, but it was all in good humour and added to the fun of the night.

We sold a varety of Sri Lankan artifacts and snacks, had winetasting and sales, money raising games involving bottles of alcohol and a silent auction. A fantastic effort, and thank you everyone who attended and contributed.

Some of the money raised will come with me to Sri Lanka on 23 June to purchase shoes, socks and thongs for the children at Galwewa School, Hambantota. We will buy chicken and fish for the children at Sith Sevana Handicaped Childrens Orphanage, and for all children in grades one and two I will buy the special double-lined exercise books that we cannot buy here. I will also be paying the clearing costs for the 19 cartons of goods which were shipped in May and which arrived in Sri Lanka on 2 June.

A special thank you to all the people who have made cash donations since the evening, which brought Total profit from the evening to:

$1925.10

3. Garage Sales

12 December 2009. We postponed the garage sale, moving it from 5th to 12th December because the advertisment didn't appear in the paper. I arrived at Padmini's on Friday evening to sort through and try to arrange the donated goods. What a task! It took both of us three hours and we didn't have that much stuff for sale, or so we thought.
One of Padmini's neighbours loaned us 4 tables and his shelter, which was good because the weather forecast was for drizzle.
The following morning was cold and miserable, but we went ahead and I arived back at Padmini's just after 6am.  We set up and by 9am, a few people had come by and bought a few things.  It was slow trade for most of the day, but surprisingly when we calculated the takings it wasn't so bad after all.

$137.75

4 April 2009. The weather was bad. It rained and thundered all night the night before, but I decided to go ahead anyway. It was cold all day but it didn't deter the buyers. We sold most items for between 50c & $2.00. Suzanne, Padmini and a couple of Padmini's friends came to help on the day. What we raised will buy around 20 pairs of shoes for the children at Galwewa School. It's not a great deal here, but in Sri Lanka it is quite a lot:

$158.10

4. Wine tastings

17 April 2009 my friends Nada & Milan Railic hosted a wine tasting evening to help raise money for In My Heart Serendib. Twenty five people attended and paid a cover charge of $10 per head, a percentage of wine sales brought in $85.20, $200 came from ticket sales, plus a cash donation of $50. Everyone sipped an array of local and interstate wines, and nibbled and chatted the evening away. We raised

$335.20

14 November 2008, a fundraising event at Let's Unwine at Berwick raised:

$419.10
