The Southeastern Philharmonia was a community  SATB choir, based in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The choir was formed in 1992 by friends who had sung together for many years in school and university choirs.  This was at a time when there were very few community choirs operating in the southeastern suburbs of Melbourne.C

The Southeastern Philharmonia aimed to extend the experience of amateur music making in Melbourne. It  regularly performed two or three major concerts a year and consciously explored different and unfamiliar pieces by major composers, often performing works generally overlooked by both professional and community groups. It was open to those who wished to extend their musical experience but may have been excluded from other groups by their lack of formal musical qualifications.

After sixteen years of pursuing these aims,  changing  circumstances made it  difficult for the group to continue, and on 6 April 2009 its members reluctantly decided to wind the choir up. Its financial assets and music library are being donated to a number of other choirs who share its aims.
