The following is the text of an email received by an Atheist group in Australia. Names have been changed.

Dear Atheists,

I have been born and raised in a VERY strict Muslim family and society. Two years ago, I have discovered that I am an atheist and that I do not believe in God, as I am a very rational person (am a computer engineer).

Fearing my life, I could not announce that to any members of my family, friends or at work. I have been living in hell for two years now, I am forced to practice a religion that I do not believe in, because I might get killed or at least severely punished by family and society.

Can you imagine that I have to fast during the whole month of Ramadan, pretend to pray and read Quran, go to the mosque etc for something I do not believe in?

This is the type of situation that reveals that the religion of Islam is in many ways more like a cult. It shows that non-religious exit counselling is needed for religions, not just cults. We will help as best we can.
