"Something In The
Air"
In my previous capacity as
President of the Seahorse club, I had made reference to the A.B.C. series called
'Something In The Air' which is filmed and shown on the network. It involves as
part of the story line, one of it's main characters, a politician who is also a
crossdresser.
Some time ago, not
long after both Lyn and myself did the article in the 'Woman's Day' magazine.
I was contacted by the research department of the show and both of us were asked
to assist with providing an insight in to what it was like being a couple in a
relationship where crossdressing was involved.
Following this meeting
with Jo Printz the research assistant she sent me some tapes of the show
and wanted my opinion on whether the A.B.C. was showing the crossdressing
subject depicted in the series in the correct manner. I have written and
spoken about this at our meetings and in the magazine and as mentioned
I was delighted with the approach to this matter that they were demonstrating.
Recently I was again
contacted by them in regards to the show as the story line was now
progressing with Doug
(Daphne) becoming more aware of his need to crossdress in the marriage
to his wife Julia. As part of this the A.B.C. contacted me and arranged
a meeting which included Kate Fitzpatrick (Julia), Roger Oakleigh
who plays Doug and Daphne in the show. The producer Declan plus
Megan and Peter who were the other two actors assigned to play the
part of a crossdresser and partner.
The story involved
Daphne attending her first Seahorse Victoria social get together
along with her wife
Julia and as such the director wanted the story to be as close to
real life as possible and as such this is what instigated this meeting.
Following that
meeting I was asked to get a group of us together to form the main
part of this social gathering so I contacted a few other Seahorse
members and was delighted with the response. We were able to get
eleven of us who
included Judy, Geena, Ann, Pamela, Susan, Edith, Catherine Alicia,
Dee , Jenny and myself who made the trip to Korrumburra where they
were filming the series.
It was to say the
least a fantastic day for all of us and I am sure that it is a day that
we will all remember for along time to come.
The show will be aired
in approximately September / October and we will keep you informed of
the exact date. To be involved with this was an unforgettable experience
and I would like to thank the A.B.C. for taking the time to involve all
of us and for the sensitivity that they showed us.
I hope that this helps
the club get better exposure and brings new members along to us.
