Plan(e) is an exploration of the gallery as a site of architectural invention. The white cube of the gallery space is displaced from its function as a casement for display of art. It is stripped bare and reclaimed as an architectural form whose ideosyncracies of structural supports, openings and surface treatments are selectively drawn attention to.
The title, PIan(e), suggests that the plan presented is just one of many plans considered for the space. It also encompasses the notion of plane and the part it plays in describing pictorial, sculptural and architectural form. The plane, in this instance, is brought into frontal view as a device for dividing and defining the space.
The artists also explore the role of labels, or signs in subtly directing our movement through the space, and the manner in which we encounter it - as an invitation; as a clue for entries and exits; or as a command.
Interventions into the space prompt an awareness of the multiple ways in which one may encounter and interpret a space as a sculptural/pictorial/architectural form.
