Joey Scouts

What we've been up to

We had great fun at the Clifford Park Scout Activity Centre recently. We did hand painting; used a pine cone for a head and made a face on it; drew a small picture then made a badge out of it; made some animals out of clay; and walked the 'senses' trail identifying things with a blind-fold on. And we had the biggest Joey HOP ever with Joeys from other Yarra Valley mobs. At the Centre they also have an obstacle course which proved to be a favourite of all the joeys.  (More information on the Clifford Park Scout Activity Centre can be found at http://www.vicscouts.org.au)

On Indian night, we learnt about American Indians and made a woven mat for our craft activity. Wombat and Bandicoot both read us a stories about American Indians. Then we played the Teepees and Indians game, and Wombat made us popcorn for a snack. YUM!!!

A few weeks ago we had Italian Night. We studied Italy, made an Italian flag , and then made pizza and ate it!

Earlier this year we had a Going Up Ceremony at Currawong Bush Park. There were lots of activities relating to the local fauna and history of the region. Best of all it was a sleepover! We stayed overnight in the hall with our leaders and the Cubs looked after us. (More information on Currawong Bush Park can be found at http://www.manningham.vic.gov.au)

See us having fun at Joey's Friends Day. Some of our friends have since become Joeys.

A couple of times each year we go to Aquarena for pool games and loads of fun.

We went to see the play Song of the Bush. It was great!

About Joey Scouts

Joey Scouts Jump Together!
Joey Scouts jump into all sorts of fun and games together! Boys and Girls aged 6 and 7 years old can join Joey Scouts, and when they do there's lots to keep them occupied.

Joey Scouts meet once a week with up to 20 Joey Scouts forms a Joey Scout Mob under the supervision of trained Joey Scout Leaders and their helpers. Joey Scouts uniform consists of a Joey T-shirt and Group scarf to show they're a member of a Joey Scout Mob.

Joey Scouts are taught about sharing, about nature and about the world around them. Joey Scouts are given a sense of belonging and learn ways for creative expression. Most importantly, Joey Scouts are taught to jump in and help. The Joey Scout theme is:

'Help Other People' (H.O.P.)

 Jump Into Fun!
Joey Scouts can leap headlong into fun with programs of games, crafts and activities that allows them to learn, mix with other children, and have a good time.

There are games with handprints and footprints that teach Joey Scouts about themselves, there are active games that teach co-ordination and co-operation, and there are new things to try like clay work, collage making and painting.

Jump Into Adventure!
For a Joey Scout, life is an exciting adventure. At Joey Scout meetings we'll have exciting stories and adventures of our own. We'll even venture out on exciting trips to interesting places. Mums and Dads are welcome to venture out with us too and help us make new discoveries on our road to adventure!

Jump Into The Outdoors!
It's a big, fascinating world and Joey Scouts want to see more of it and learn more about it. We'll have special visitors who'll help Joey Scouts with nature knowledge and special displays and activities.

We'll also find out more about our namesakes - the Joeys and Kangaroos of Australia - and other types of wildlife too.

The First Jump
Joey Scouts is the first jump into the Scout Movement. Once a Joey Scout turns 8, he or she can move straight into the Cub Scouts, then the Scouts and later still into the Venturer Scouts and the Rover Sections.

Scouting is a world-wide organisation offering the opportunity for young people to discover the world beyond home and classroom, tapping the skills of others to learn, and passing that knowledge onto others.

Joey Scouts is a great way to take that first step towards a code of living that helps young people grow into capable, self-reliant individuals.

Jump To It!
There are a lot of other Joey Scouts out there waiting for you to jump in and join them!
