Ideas for a Community Hub and/or Multi-Purpose Building
Jones Road
Reserve is a key centre of Somerville. If a Community
Hub Building was constructed the Community Hub Building
will have a dual purpose, community activities, child &
family centre during the day and accommodating sporting
and community service facilities by night. The majority
of facilities currently available are in need of
re-building and/or major refurbishing and updating.
The community hub
would take into account the needs of new community
members. A one stop shop where new residents can go to
a local meeting place to ask, for example?
Therefore the
Community Hub is the umbrella, gateway and/or signpost
for all facilities and services available within the
Somerville area.
Currently we
have two floor plans available. Obviously, plenty of
community input is required to come up with a functional
complex to accommodate the majority of functionality of
proposed users.
We ask for
input, ideas, concerns, help to achieve a complex that
all can made use of within the community.

Wednesday, 16th May 2006, Kerri Marshall initiated an impromptu meeting at
Jones Road Reserve. While the footballers trained I was
fortunate enough to chat with Bill McMahon, Judy
(secretary) and her husband (sorry your name escapes
me).
We
discussed the role that the Community Affairs Council would
possibly play within the community and viewed the plans for a
multi purpose building. A community hub with multiple uses.
It
was great to have the groups input and I look forward to
discussing the community hub plans with other groups in the not
so distance future. I would also appreciate input from the
community via the Community Form link.
As
Jones Road is central for many sports, clubs and groups in the
area, location of the building within the Jones Road Reserve is
high on the agenda.
Other
issues discussed was sun orientation; viewing of sports;
security for children in regard to other people using the
building and liquor; meal preparation and delivery access;
canteen facilities; disabled amenities; first aid as well as
local transport. A bus stop incorporating a bus bay and taxi
drop off zone would add to the community hubs appeal and
accessibility.
The
club members had a wealth of information to take into account.
I am sure other sports, clubs and community members will be able
to offer more.
Feedback is crucial. Please use the
Community Form or attend
the CAC Meeting on Wednesday, 24th May, 2006 at Somerville
Primary School.
Hope
to chat with you in the flesh; at the meeting or via email. |
