Victorian Multi-Ethnic Slavic Welfare Association Inc.

The Multi-Ethnic Slavic Welfare worker is based at Springvale Community Aid and Advice
Bureau
every Wednesday afternoon.

Who are we?

The Victorian Multi-Ethnic Slavic Welfare Association (VMESWA) is a non-Government,
non-political and non-religious organisation which provides information and assistance to migrants,
refugees and Slavic Australians in one of the following languages:

  • Bosnian,
  • Croatian,
  • Serbian,
  • Slovenian,
  • Macedonian,
  • English.

The Agency is run by the Committee of Management elected from the members of the Victorian
Multi-Ethnic Slavic Welfare Association.

What do we offer?

  • Information, assistance and referral for individuals and families.
  • Assistance with the settlement needs of recently arrived migrants and refugees, such as:
    • information.
    • material assistance.
    • assistance with accommodation and income.
    • assistance with immigration matters
    • short-term trauma counselling.
  • Volunteer support to newly arrived refugee families (CRSS group).
  • Volunteer support for elderly and frail people in their homes.
  • Support, information and referral for Slavic women in situations of Family Violence.
  • Bilingual child care through our Child care and Family Support centre in Lalor.
  • Community Education
    • Providing a cultural overview of people from the former Yugoslavia to mainstream
      service providers.
    • Providing information seminars for Slavic people in their languages on a variety
      of topics.
  • Resource:
    • providing information to workers and clients on professionals speaking Slavic
      languages and services available.
  • Social support through groups which aim to reduce social isolation through friendly
    meetings, learning English, group excursions and participation in social events, such as:
    • Multi Ethnic Social and Support Network 'Friends', Springvale.
    • Slavic Women's Support Group, Melbourne.
    • Multi Ethnic Senior Citizens Group, Preston.
    • Slavic Women's Support Group, Yarraville.
    • Bilingual English Language Group, Preston.
    • Women's Group, Springvale.
    • Yugoslav Pensioner Group, Dandenong.
    • Slavic Pensioner Group, Dandenong.

Our services are free and confidential. Appointments are necessary.
