Save Albert Park's Activities
2001 Grand Prix Race Period
The aim of Save Albert Park's campaign is to move the Grand Prix from Albert Park. Our campaign continues because the key issues continue.
The theme of this year's activities is:
MOTOR RACING IN PUBLIC PARKLAND IS WRONG, WRONG, WRONG.
Wrong ethically. Wrong environmentally. Wrong economically.
Relocating the event from the Park to a permanent venue will right all these wrongs.
For more details about these issues, please look at the March 2001 and previous issues of Save Albert Park's newsletter.
The following are Save Albert Park's 2001 race period activities - more or less in date order:
a) BEYOND THE BARRICADES
Celebrities will be interviewed for the program, at the Vigil on Monday 26.2.01. The program will go to air at 6 p.m. the same day. On 3CR at 855 KHz in the AM band.
b) VIP MARQUEE
This will be located on the grass just under the Armstrong Street underpass, as follows:
· Wednesday 28.2.01 - from 11.00 a.m.
· Thursday 1.3.01 & Friday 2.3.01 - from 7.30 a.m. - 3.00 p.m
· Saturday 3.3.01 & Sunday 4.3.01 - from 7.00 a.m. - 2.00 p.m.
It will be Save Albert Park's visible presence, incorporating our Information Centre, our Attendance Count headquarters, and our Media Liaison point. At the marquee we will display the names of many prominent people who oppose motor racing in a park.
c) LAUNCH OF THE 2000 PARKWATCH POST-RACE REPORT
Cr Julian Hill, Mayor of the City of Port Phillip, will launch the report at 11.00 a.m. on Wednesday 28.2.01, at Save Albert Park's VIP marquee.
d) LETTERBOXING
We will distribute a leaflet providing Grand Prix information to householders living near the venue, and letting them know how they can complain if they need to.
e) ATTENDANCE COUNT
We will count at all gates on all four days of the event. We will invite the media to inspect our counting methods, and to contrast the transparency of our count methodology with that of the Grand Prix Corporation's count methodology.
