Here are some websites that offer information and guidance on teaching English as a Second Language.

Learning games
This site has some great printable mazes and educational games

English resources from the UK
Although this site is not updated, it provides a great volume of resources for teaching English to native speakers. It has worksheets, games tests and activities appropriate for advanced ESL students. Lots of the material is based on Roald Dahl and Shakespeare's works.

Puzzlemaker
Run by the Discovery Channel, this site allows you to generate your own customised word search and crosswords using your word lists. It also has some useful clipart to decorate worksheets with.

The Educator's Toolkit
A Candian site that offers some specialised teaching ideas and links which will be useful for many school projects. See especially the Just for Kids and Mini-theme pages.

Education World
Lesson plans, printable worksheets, advice and ideas are all available from this wide-ranging site

A comprehensive source of information on teaching English to students with ESL.

The Internet TESL Journal
This site provides an incredible array of up-to-date Articles, Research Papers, Lessons Plans, Classroom Handouts, Teaching Ideas & Links. New tutors should make the lessons page their second port of call


Racism No Way
The Racism. No way! project aims to assist school communities and education systems to recognise and address racism in the learning environment. The page linked above provides some background on the form and extent of racism in Australian schools. It is therefore a good place to go to get a sense of some of our student's school life experiences. The classroom activities has a wealth of resources aimed at combatting racism in Australian schools.


Tutorial World
This site hosts an enormous number of printable worksheets for English targetted at all different levels from pre-school to advanced. It is well worth a look for some excellent ideas, at the very least.


Online Dictionary
Want to add some Arabic text to a worksheet you've made? Try this online Arabic - English dictionary (note that it does not offer pronounciation guidance just the correct font).


Teachers & Families
This site offers free learning resources for pre-K through high school students.

ABC Teach
This site hosts over 5000 worksheets across a range of levels and includes resources for colouring in and word searches. There is also a section where worksheets are broken into themes.

Ed Helper
This site hosts worksheets and ideas for teaching different concepts. For SAIL students, the Phonics pages are highly recommended. The site also has a wealth of “biography” worksheets that profile prominent contributors.

This page provides accessible ideas for practical activities in an ESL setting.

National Geographic Animal Colouring-in pages
This page provides a series of beautiful colouring-in sheets pages with images of animals.

Activity Pad printable do-to-dot pages
This page has a wealth of dot-to-dot, colour by number and maze printable worksheets.

United Nations Cyberschool Bus educational resources
The United Nations have a number of websites that aim to introduce children to the ideals and operations of the world body. A large number of lesson plans and worksheets on highly relevant topics to SAIL students are available from the sites listed, especially those concerning refugees and human rights.

Anti-racism lessons and worksheets It is just as important that SAIL participants are sensitive to issues of race and background as any other students. These lesson ideas aim to guide students through aspects of diversity in Australia, in particular concerning migrants and refugees.

SAIL Senior translated information resources
These sites allows users to search by topic, by language, or both. Search results will include an English summary of the information, a link to a complete English language version and a link to the information in the other language requested, for most students the most useful language will be Arabic.
