Southern Area Concert Band

About the Band

The Southern Area Concert Band is one of Victoria's premier community based ensembles. Sponsored by the City of Kingston and based in Moorabbin, the Southern Area Concert Band has been contributing to Melbourne's rich cultural life by providing award-winning quality music to the public since 1971.

Our membership consists of amateur and semi-professional musicians from all around Melbourne ranging in age from high school students to retirees. This diverse range of people, ages and backgrounds is cemented together by our love of performing live music within the local community and around Australia.

Our music library consists of a huge variety of styles ranging from classical and movie themes to big band and pop. Of course, no concert band library would be complete without a variety of marches and a selection of music from wind band composers such as Ralph Vaughn Williams, Gustav Holst and Percy Grainger.

Being a community ensemble, the Southern Area Concert Band and the new Southern Area Training Band are always seeking new musicians in all areas of the band (woodwind, brass and percussion). If you play an instrument and are interested in joining us, please contact us for information on becoming a member. We always welcome new faces and are currently in particular need of the instruments listed below.

If you do not play an instrument, but enjoy listening to quality music, please visit our 'future concerts' section to find out when and where we will next be performing.

I trust that you enjoy your visit to the Southern Area Concert Band web site.

Darryn Wright. Music Director.
