About
RWMC
Who are we?
The RAAF Williams Model Club is an amalgamation of the RAAF Williams
Model Aero and Model Railway Clubs. Both clubs had roots back to
the '70s at least, as RAAF Laverton clubs.
Where do
we hang out? Our clubrooms and workshops are located just inside
RAAF Williams, Laverton Base, (Melways Map 53, C10) with excellent
workshop, storage and meeting facilities.
Where do
we fly? Sadly, we no longer have access to the disused Laverton
airfield adjacent to the RAAF base. The committee is seeking alternative
arrangements (Mar 08) and will advise members as soon as they are
in place.
What about
meetings? Monthly meetings are held at 7.30 pm on the second
Monday of each month except January, but you will find us there
every Monday night for workshop night (consisting
of a bit of building and fixing, some coffee drinking and biscuit
eating, a little simulator flying and railway running, and a heap
of chat and good company). Visitors are always welcomed; however,
access to the clubrooms requires the issue of a pass to enter the
base, so the best plan is to contact us if you would like to
visit.

What do we
do? Aside from catering for (so far) aircraft, boats, the occasional
car, and railway modelling, we have members active in the full spectrum
of aircraft modelling. Scale, gas turbine and ducted fan radio control,
sport RC, soaring, electric flight, control-line, free-flight and
indoor flying all have a keen following within the club. The basic
club philosophy is: 'If it flies or runs on rails (or looks as if
it might), we want one!' On the workshop side, many members also
subscribe to Tim the Toolman's creed: 'There is no such thing as
a tool I don't need!'
How do I
become a member? RWMC membership is open to serving Defence
members in the Melbourne area, and their dependants, to ex-RAAF
members who live in the local area, and to restricted numbers of
civilian members who have a particular contribution to make to the
club. If you are interested in joining, come along any Monday night
to meet the mob and see if we have what you need.
Applications or renewals with cheques can be passed to the Treasurer
on meeting nights.
