Fellowship Day

Car Rally / Trivia Mystery Excursion

Our Car Trial Fellowship Day was a most enjoyable social event attended by more than 45 Rotarians and guests.

The day commenced at Lower Eltham Park and the first intrepid car “trialers” headed off at 10.45 am . All teams had got under way by 11.30 am . What was to be a pleasant 2 hour drive around the local countryside turned into a 3.5 hour epic for one all male team (typical men, they wouldn't ask for directions).

The quiz that had to be completed as our travellers meandered about enjoying the rural scenery comprised some 55 questions as well as some extra points that could be gained for items collected along the way and some cryptic photographic clues. A couple of participant teams needed to study up on their Australiana because they drove straight past Ironbark Road by missing the clue about Banjo Patterson's bearded "Man from..............".

Our (mis)guided tour took us through Plenty, Yarrambat, Yan Yean, Whittlesea and Arthur's Creek until we arrived at Max and Lyn Campbell's rural homestead at Cottles Bridge . Some less adventurous colleagues joined us at the Campbell ’s for a pleasant BBQ and fellowship.

Keith Baglin reminded us of Banjo's talents by giving a tactile and stirring rendition of the Man from Ironbark. Laurie and Jane Rose won the prize for the highest score in the car trial and special awards were presented to Simon Powell's team and Car 54 driven by Wayne Dunstan with Ken Owen as his navigator(??).

After the awards were distributed a couple of heats of "Swing the Orange" were held before the Orange Bowl trophy was handed to Max Campbell for his magnificent display of pelvic dexterity with pendulous citrus fruit.

Thanks to everyone who participated, hope you all had a good day. Special thanks to Max and Lyn for opening their home for this event.

Neil Wilson
Chair - Fellowship

A special thanks must go to Neil and Marie and committee for organising such a successful event. Many weeks and kms of work would have been committed to the organisation and validation of the cryptic clues. Also to Max and Lyn for opening their residence for our enjoyment. Comments were made that it was one of the best fellowship events that we have had. WELL DONE !
